Celebrated Summer

Just writing to let you know that by this time next week, I'll be on summer break. Classes are done early this week. I'll grade in my usual efficient way (no comments on final papers unless students ask) and submit my grades on Sunday.

Oh, I'll also work in a trip to this thing in Chicago. If you're among the weirdos, jesters, hardasses, and masochists who'll be there, I'll be flashing the secret sign throughout. Beware.

By the way: My immanent summer reminds me to mention that I've been listening to a lot of Husker Du lately. I know I've mentioned it before, but Foo Fighters are at best a second-rate tribute band, and at worst a radio-friendly rip off of Husker Du. Is this your celebrated summer?

Okay...so twist the knife, why don't you? There isn't any *envy* here, just pain. Pain and misery, until the end of May. THE END OF MAY (screams into the darkness).

Have a blast at that "thing in Chicago." I have heard tales of your delivery of JUSTICE abroad. No doubt, Chicago will pose no obstacles.

I have never had the slightest interest in the Foo Fighters, by the way. NOT my celebrated summer. Please provide a suggested playlist for book writing. That will make a celebrated summer for me!

END OF MAY????? *ouch* What kind of PRISON do you work for???

I'm going to the Chicago thing mostly so that I can catch the Hopper exhibit at the Art Institute. But, never fear, some JUSTICE will be served.

Book writing requires Miles Davis. On repeat.

The art institute has one of my favorite Picasso paintings, The Tragedy.
its a monochromatic blue painting, i think it was done with aquamarine pigment (very expensive) yet it was painted over a used canvas.

I've been enjoying Husker Du as well lately, not on heavy rotation though. Flip Your Wig is on the top my my list.

I'll keep an eye out for the Picasso-- I've seen it before, but did not know the backstory. The Central Division APA is held in Chicago every year, so I visit the Art Institute every year. Serious place.

Flip your Wig is a work of genius. No wonder Foo rips it off.

I would love to check it out some day.
The last good museum I went to was the Salvatore Dali Museum in St Petersburg Fla. It was small but very good

I didn't know there was a Dali museum in Fla. Soulds cool. Maybe I'll check it out next time I'm down that way...

Um...the Prison that also known as 3/3. It looks like a LIFE sentence for me.

You teach 3 courses in a semester??? That's undignified. I've gotten myself down to 3 courses a year, and I still feel under-appreciated.

If you go, I recommend the docent tour, something I would normally never do. With Dali somethings aren't noticble until they are pointed out.
The explaination of the "Halucinagenic Toreador" is worth the price alone

Will look into it. I visited the Dali museum in London a few year ago. Wild stuff.

I always thought Foo Fighters were a more radio pop friendly version of Fire Dances/Night time/BTATS-era Killing Joke. I have to listen to them again with this Husker Du perspective. Very interesting observation.
