Worst Book Cover

The new collection of Josh Cohen's essays gets my vote for worst book cover of the year. That's right: every word in the title is hyphenated (well... they're not really hyphens) on the cover! And the tics! Someone got paid to design [sic] this cover?

Of course, it's nice to have all of these essays in one place, but surely Harvard University Press should have done a better job on the packaging.

I'm staring at this cover, trying to understand what is so important about the empty space to the left side of the text box. Last I heard, one can expand a text box with relative ease to accommodate the text it contains. But, maybe there's something I'm not getting. Is it that POLI TICS, framed between PHILO SOPHY and DEMO CRACY is supposed to be making some point or other?

this one has always struck me as bad, namely because the way the first three lines line up, in terms of vertical words.

surely there was someone immature enough to notice this...

Actually, the cover contains the profound logical truth: "Oy is Oy"

Well, in Turkish, 'Oy' means a vote. So perhaps it's a logical truth of some political import.

There are worse covers:

All of the early Value Inquiry Book Series volumes look like this.

I picked up copy of Kenneth Kipnis' book *Legal Ethics* in a used book store because of a misprint on the spine: the publisher had inserted an n between the h and c in "Ethics." Priceless.

Uh, that should be between the "h" and the "i". Oops.

But at least the typography could pass as acceptable. See http://www.amazon.co.uk/Liberals-Communitarians-Introduction-Stephen-Mulhall/dp/0631198199 for a truly awful example of bad book cover & bad typography.

I'm just going to guess there's a hidden meaning to the second line of letters:

PHILO
SOPHY
POLI
TICS
DEMO
CRACY

It only remains to be asked: Hooier than what?
