Well... I wasn't in philosophy when the original edition came out. Not even close. Not old enough for Jefferson Airplane to be my first album, either. So maybe not as old as you think...
Cool book cover. Off-topic and random but I entered grad school in the late 1990's and for some reason I've always wondered whether philosophy grad students and professors in the 60's and 70's took lots of acid and smoked loads of pot. I also wonder how often it happens now. I've been in departments where both grad students and faculty did a lot of drugs and other departments not at all (at least as it seemed to me). Just curious.
Anon 4:10 am. Actually, many philosophers agree that alcohol is needed for decent work. I myself always have a glass of hock at lunch, and do my best work in the afternoon. I'm pretty sure that its causal: Post hock ergo propter hock.
Observations from an old cranky jerk who happens to be a professional philosopher. Occasionally philosophical, most often just vulgar. Sometimes focused on sober points of logic and issues in political theory, but more frequently fixed on nonsense. Bad metal bands, crappy guitarists, stupid lyrics, celebrities, pop "culture," telemarketers, irrationality, and other annoyances. Always misanthropic. Anti-religious. Not particularly amusing, either. Some might say insulting. Strange mail. Kook magnet. Doom. Comments from other cranky jerks, young and old.
