Not a Germaphobe, But...

Using cell phones in public bathrooms is gross.... right?

Yes, but more for the sound than anything else. (Texting is just annoying.) Whenever I hear someone making a stall call I have a desire to say loud enough for the other person to hear "hey, watch where you're pissing!" or "wow, I never saw anyone take as big and smelly a dump as you just did!"

If you're willing to touch your penis after touching things in a public bathroom, you should be fine with touching your phone.

Especially after it had slipped from under your ear and fell into the
urinal...

Once, some jackass turned out the lights as he left bathroom of the local chain bookstore, leaving me in the stall, in the dark, in the middle of my business. The light of my cellphone, while not as bright as the light of natural reason, was adequate to see through me that darkest of times.

Sorry, but what does your hatred of German have to do with cellphone use in public washrooms?

He's not averse to Germans, he's just the one person in the world who doesn't like GI.

Umm...I don't think those phones are there for the public to use. I think they were just left there by accident. I wouldn't touch them if I were you.

There's also an app for recording and digitally remastering fart noises. It's called the I woopi cushion. It's great for clearing out rooms.

Question of etiquette: do you press mute when you fart? Or just clear your throat to cover? What would Miss Manners say?

I wish the world would end.

Ever since cell phones started being equipped with cameras, using a cell phone in a public bathroom has become uncool.

coming in late, but...

i guess i take it that what's gross is the idea that once your cell phone is out in a bathroom it becomes a bathroom object. and you wouldn't want to hold a bathroom object up to your face.

but unless you change your clothes immediately upon exit from the bathroom, then using a cell phone in the bathroom is no worse than touching your shirt.

but if the grossness is the talking to someone while you're in the bathroom, then maybe THAT is gross...
