More Sincere Apologies...

The "Pay My Dues" feature is currently unavailable due to technical difficulties. The National Office sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience this has caused.

Seriously. What the fuck are they doing??

You know this is an experiment run by X-phi folks, right?

I looked up the APA website, and as far as I can tell their IT/web guy is some political science grad student who got his BA at UDel.

So... that explains a lot. I suspect that the people at the national office know nothing about the interwebs, and so hired the kid they knew and liked and who seemed (to them) like a computer genius to build and run the website.

Let's all not pay our dues.

If only one could protest not being able to do something by not doing it. . . .

Has anyone noticed that Jobs for Philosophers is basically hidden on this shit website? The only way to find THE ONLY REALLY IMPORTANT THING ON THE WEBSITE is to realize that it is hidden under resources/member resources. On the other hand, there is an essential link to the American Council of Learned Societies on the main page, so if I want to hang with any other Learned Societies, the APA is offering help right there. I actually fear for all of our health and safety at the Eastern in DC if this is the way the APA is going to run things.

Seeing as the apologies are "sincere", I take it we can expect to see the Executive Director resign any day now.

Phylo hit 70 job posts today, she casually observed.

Phylo will get one more just as soon as HR publishes a post for our department's job.

BTW, have you noticed that a web-"only" ad costs the same as a normal print ad, plus a $20 service fee? I wonder what that amounts to per hour. Let's see. I will go to an email, cut something, and paste it here and see how long it takes.

"You are an asshole. Stop emailing me."

Hmm. About 6 seconds. That's a nice hourly rate you can charge with your University of Delaware Political Science degree!
