Sincere Apologies....

"APA member login functionality has been restored to the website. The National Office sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience this has caused."

The APA isn't even incompetent anymore.

Good thing it was restored before the Pacific deadline!

I don't know how your blog got into my RSS feed but I do know why it stays there: one-sentence articles like this! Thanks for the laugh.

Translation: "Whatever lazy fool was supposed to be keeping an eye on the website finally bestirred him-/her-self to take some action to restore one of the few services actually provided, however badly, by our criminally arrogant and obtuse organization. We acknowledge, begrudgingly, that people with working consciences would be embarrassed by the torpor so displayed, and because we know you're all too chicken-shit to call us on it, we've decided to offer an utterly insufficient and blatantly insincere apology for it."

Even more deressing...

This is an instance of something I generally detest: No one should get to say that they "sincerely" apologize. Announce the apology. And don't just say you're apologizing; rather, actually apologize ("We're sorry.") But whatever, leave the determination of whether or not the apology is sincere up to the audience. Indeed, it strikes me that the more profusely one announces one's sincerity, the less sincere it becomes.
