82

By my quick count, the October JFP has a total of 82 ads for tenure-track assistant professor jobs in the US.

Given that there are several hundred (or more) philosophers looking for jobs - shouldn't this be classified under "Doom"?

"77" is better -- at least album-wise.

Yes, but there are a lot of job ads out there (for good ones!) that are not in the JFP this year (for whatever reason). So the "82" number from the JFP is not a good measure. Plus, many of the non-TT jobs are still decent -- stuff like 3-year renewable, etc.

I'm guessing that anonymous 12:37 of the optimistic comment is not on the market. No one facing this market is excited about the prospects. I'm with 2:27.

The Smokers seem to have found a larger number on JFP.

Of course, given the reliability of the JFP listings, this may not mean much of anything.
