No Sleep 'Till...

I was just at my local coffee shop, and I watched the guy at the next table pour two of those small bottles of 5 Hour Energy Drink into an extra large cup of hot coffee. This is what the world is coming to...

Wow--two versions of the composition fallacy--did he need 10 times the energy for the next 5 hours or 5 times the energy for the next 10 hours?

Never tried that 5-hour energy -- is it any good?

1) It doesn't matter what kind you get, it tastes like garbage- cough syrup tastes better

2) It does work fairly well, though I'm not sure if it really works better than coffee. If I had to guess, I'd guess that the large amount of caffeine in it is by far the most important ingredient, and possibly the only one that really does anything. (Perhaps some others make you feel flush or something, and that make people think they are more awake.)

3) I basically only use them if I'm driving. To me, the advantage over coffee for that situation is getting the caffeine w/o as much liquid as I'd need if I drank the same amount of coffee, so I am less likely to have to stop to pee.

4) I might add that I'm perpetually under-rested, and take really larger amounts of coffee all the time, so perhaps they'd seem stronger to people who do the rational thing and get more sleep. I now must finish my lecture notes for tomorrow morning so that I can try to get at least 5 hours tonight. Less is more likely.

In my head, I hear the previous comment being narrated by Steve Buscemi in a really nervous, jittery voice.

Yeah, that's probably pretty close to right, except I'm a bit less good looking.

I wanna take 11:10pm on a relaxing holiday! Reminds me when I had two kids under 5 while attempting to make tenure. I preferred guarana.
