Department Meeting Rule #8
If you're in the habit of eating especially smelly or messy food for lunch, don't bring your lunch to the meeting.

Yes, eat that tuna sandwich or veggie curry in your office before or after the meeting! And stop slurping. The rules printed on the walls of our seminar room.
Meeting Rule #8a: Schedule meetings so that faculty have time to eat before.
If I teach 4 classes in a row before the department meeting, and there's no break, you'll sit through whatever I decide to bring to eat. And maybe I'll bring something terribly smelly just to convince you to move the meeting time.
Observations from an old cranky jerk who happens to be a professional philosopher. Occasionally philosophical, most often just vulgar. Sometimes focused on sober points of logic and issues in political theory, but more frequently fixed on nonsense. Bad metal bands, crappy guitarists, stupid lyrics, celebrities, pop "culture," telemarketers, irrationality, and other annoyances. Always misanthropic. Anti-religious. Not particularly amusing, either. Some might say insulting. Strange mail. Kook magnet. Doom. Comments from other cranky jerks, young and old.
